What I have been doing since 1975:
I went to the U of A for five years and got my degree in Mechanical
Engineering. I met Lois at the Duval Sierrita Mine near Green Valley in
1979, when I was a summer hire. We bought a house and then got married in
April, 1983. I have been working in the mining industry most of the time,
except for about five years that I spent with the Power Cooperative in
Benson. I worked at Cyprus Sierrita near Tucson from '88 to early '92, and
then joined a consulting engineering firm - The Winters Company. I've been
to the Philippines, Peru, and Costa Rica for consulting projects, and have
spent time at various mines around Arizona, Nevada and Utah. I spent about
two years in Salt Lake City, commuting home to Tucson every other weekend.
That was pretty rough on the family, since I was hardly ever home. We did
go to Yellowstone to see the geysers and did some skiing in Utah while I was
there.
I found that golf in Utah is even better than Arizona. With no other
commitments, I could get to one of three or four golf courses in about ten
minutes after work, and could play till nearly 9 pm during daylight savings
time. I made a hole-In-one there about 2 years ago, on Aug. 4, by the way.
I played on city-league and various other basketball teams in Tucson, until
I had a knee injury in late '85. I was just starting to get good at it!
I could go on, but I might end up with a bio longer than ol' Happy Butt
(Glidewell).
Memories of MHS:
Winning the basketball game in Globe's gym in our sophomore year. Losing
the game at Globe in our junior year. Going out for food after games in our
junior year. Playing for the state championship our senior year, and losing
to Morenci for the fourth time that season. Feeney scoring 40 points in the
state quarterfinal or semi-final game, I'm not sure which. The trip to the
Grand Canyon with the Biology class, when Mr. Forrester nearly sent me and a
few others (you know who you are!) home for leaving the camp and walking to
the lodge the first night. Having to hike out of the canyon in one day,
because of a storm forecast. Four years of golf trips with Mr. Baack, and
the cast of characters that were the team.
