What I have been doing since 1975:
Since 1975 I have explored a variety of occupations but have
yet to find the right fit; have done management consulting, government auditing,
mortgages, teaching, accounting software sales, wafer dicing ops and assembly
and the list grows; hoping to find the right niche before I retire; have been
involved in a group that has an annual charity golf tournament to benefit junior
golfing activities in Arizona for the past 10 years and that has been rewarding
to help out lesser privileged kids in the community; didn't get married til a
few months after the last reunion for the first time and the relationship is
still going strong, despite many challenges over the last few years (which it
seems we have all had but possibly in different forms); not planning on starting
a family till I'm 65 or so (that's a joke but it seems the less I plan things
nowadays the better things work out); lost my dog of 14 years last year but have
a new golden retriever to take its place, now just over a year old and has just
about chewed up every piece of wood furniture in the house--can't wait to see
what happens when we get him a friend to keep him company (ugghhh!); the gray
hair is starting to go to white but what the hell, I still have a lot of it;
besides a great wife and dog, I have a nice set of golf clubs (which at my state
in life, looking good is critical cuz the game sucks more often than not), a
comfy house and good lawnmower. Think I am set for a while!
Memories of MHS:
Where to start.....played the best golf of my life as a
sophomore and enjoyed all my years playing golf there; enjoyed thespians and to
this day can sing some of the songs in my head from the musicals at the high
school and from Ms. Corbett's days (now that's going back, isn't it?); band was
great; not sure if the school has ever seen a dual drum act like Juan Aceves and
I put on a couple of times--if we weren't good, we were at least loud; marching
band was always great cuz the drum section always had a great view of the pom
squad (despite being incredibly backwards socially I did notice the female form
back then); remember being totally clueless on what to do as Student Body
President and it probably showed; after having done some teaching in today's
schools now wonder how the hell Ms. Ledbetter got control of us when we were in
the classroom, the days when you could publish grades on the wall for all to
see; remember going out for basketball as a senior and being smart enough to
quit having seen all the talent (and height) around me--was a lot of fun to
watch that year anyway; remember studying a lot; then remember studying a lot
more; can still visualize time spent in the Spanish lab reciting the infamous 'Paco
and Maria' stories, though that paid off later getting me a days substitute
teaching two years ago in a Spanish class; remember Stiles and Haywood and I
spending the better half of lunch hours on the steps in front of B building
bs'ing and sight seeing; remember playing shirts and skins in PE out on the
empty lot behind the gym, like in February!; and finally like to go to the
reunions and read this incredible web site Larry so graciously and diligently
maintains so that I can find out all the things that were happening right under
my nose at the time that I had no clue about (and apparently there was a lot!)
