Rosemary Castaneda Horlacher
Family Information: Married for 24 years to Don
Horlacher from Miami High Class of 1972. Don is a Senior Electrical Engineer and works for ASARCO in Hayden, AZ. We have 3 sons.
Greg is 22 and is currently a NAU student who is majoring in English and
Journalism. Jeff is 21 and is married and working as an auto mechanic. Tim
is 18 and is graduating from Globe High School with the class of 2000. We have 2 grandchildren, 2 1/2 year old girl and a 1 year old boy and one on the
way.
Occupation: I am currently an Eligibility
Interviewer for Arizona Long Term Care in Mesa ( which is Medicaid in other
states)
Residence: We are still in Globe/Miami where we returned
when we started having our family. We wanted to be close to our family and
friends who give us and our children/grandchildren lots of love and
support.
What have you been doing since 1975?
I got married in 1976 and we lived in the Phoenix area while my husband got
his college degree. We moved back to Globe/Miami to be closer to family
and to get away from the traffic in the valley. We were very active raising our
sons and I spent a lot of time watching my husband play softball and my boys playing every sport imaginable. Now that my last son is graduating and my
husband had given up softball (bad knees) I realize how much I'm going to miss
all the chaos of trying to be at all the games. I am enjoying being a
grandmother (it's true what they say about spoiling the grandkids and then
giving them back to the parents to straighten them out!) Most of all I enjoy
keeping in touch with my high school friends, Lizabeth Falquez Fetterman, Annie
Moreno Escobedo, Gail Coppa Dalmacio, Larry Hawkins, Leslie Collopy Modrow
(although not as often as I'd like) and then the ones that I run into around
town. I feel very fortunate to have such great and dear friends after all these
years.
Memories of MHS:
My best memories: Going to the prom with all my closest friends and then
flying to Sky Harbor airport afterwards with my date, Tommy Mercer from Globe.
It was the most beautiful night, with a perfect full moon which lit up all the
mountains and canyons. I remember cruising with Leslie Collopy and the gang in
her orange mustang. We went everywhere. Leslie, Gail, Crystal, Liz and I soaped
a Globe person's car not realizing that the person who owned the car was parked across the street
with Gail's brother and watched the whole thing. Oops!!! I loved taking pictures
for the Concentrator and all the fun we had on the Concentrator Staff and in the darkroom. I loved the airplane rides that I
took with Larry Hawkins. It was like fun roller coaster rides. I would
tell my parents that I was going shopping with the girls and we'd head out to
Cutter Airport and go flying to Mesa. The absolute best part was all my friends.
They were always there for me and I miss them all.
